ALEX WINSTON

As many of you probably know, music is our full time job and this here magazine is just an extension of that creative passion, but behind the scenes we’ve got another venture operating under the guise of Beyond Gold in the form of a publishing imprint of the same name signed with Warner-Chappell earlier this year. So with that full disclosure out of the way, it’s only right that our first artist profile focus on our debut signing, the lovely and talented Alex Winston. Straight out the Motor City via NYC, Winston’s the coolest girl you’ll ever meet and one of the most talented artists to emerge on the pop landscape in 2011.

With rapturous support from everyone from Popjustice to Pitchfork, discerning music fans should be well familiar with Alex by now, but today she brings back the curtain on new single “Velvet Elvis”, due out this September ahead of her debut album early next year. With an insane knack for pop hooks, punk rock showmanship live and songs inspired by everything from polygamous sects to day-drinking and velvet idol worshipping (that’s “Sister Wife”, “Choice Notes” and “Velvet Elvis” for those of you keeping score at home), she’s one of the most interesting things to happen to pop music this year and one of the brightest signs that good music will prevail in 2012.
