As the first lady of Beyond Gold and the first artist signed to our publishing imprint, you can expect no shortage of love shown to Alex Winston in these pages, but when the output is this consistently brilliant it would be hard to complain. We first featured Winston’s latest single “Velvet Elvis” on Beyond Gold last month, and today comes the premiere of the brilliant video of the track courtesy of the lovely people at Pitchfork. Director Douglas Hart (of Jesus & The Mary Chain fame) takes the song’s theme of objectum sexuality - the phenomenon in which people find themselves emotionally or romantically attracted to inanimate objects - and runs with it, as Winnie lovingly cherishes all manner of everyday objects before the chorus arrives with an explosion of color and percussion.
